Donation sites?

OK, so Google supports this site:
http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html

But I see on The Colbert Report that you can donate money in the USA this way:

Someone on YT sent me this:
http://www.vloggerheads.com/profiles/blogs/japan-links-to-help-if-youre

I wonder if it’s useful to have so many charities in the world.

I also wonder about selling things to raise money. I mean I support some people like Ken Tanaka who raised over $400 selling art and t-shirts! (Good job, Ken!)

But I guess some people need a reason or an incentive to donate so we have campaigns like this

Got this email from a guy in Germany.
Hi Victor!
First of all, as i said before in a comment, as all the other of your fans i’m glad to hear that you’ve relatively safe.
I’d have a link for people in germany to donate money. the organisation is the CARITAS which is a christian help organisation raising funds to send help.

http://www.caritas-international.de/77569.html

since the whole page is in german and until now i didn’t find the english language version i just translated the text on this page, so you might read it and afterwards decide wether you put the link online or not.

“March, 11th, 2011. The flood after the strong earthquake has caused massive destructions in northeast of japan.
Caritas international provides 50.000Euro for instant help.
In an update on the situation sent to the international
Caritas network a few hours after the catastrophe, the director of Caritas Japan reports more than 10 aftershocks after the first quake. The biggest damage however was caused by the tsunami at the northeastcoast.

At the moment the situation remains very unclear. Because of the breakdown of the communications with the most concerned prefecture, Miyagi, the ability to contact Caritas Japan is very limited.

The epicentre of the initial earthquake was about 130km away from the japanese island of ojika. Caused by the massive quake, tsunami warnings for the whole pacific area were made and in Indonesia, the Phillipines and mand other regions alarm was triggered.

Caritas international is asking everyone to donate for the victims of this tsunami. With the donated money we want to start supporting instant help measures made by the japanese Caritas.
donate online with the “JETZT SPENDEN” butoon or via bank transfer using the keyword “Tsunami”:”
I hope you stay safe and all this will be over asap 🙁
All of gemany’s best wishes and prayers are with japan
greetings
Dennis
